I became a PE teacher because I love participating with my students in all sports and chase games. Since this pandemic has happened, I will be posting things on this site as well as my Canvas site from SDHS to inform you of up coming news. This is a time we will all get through and we will be better for it. I miss the hands on teaching and I look forward to meeting you face to face. In the meantime, you will have weekly assignments that will help you to improve your body, mind, spirit and I will also be including some life skills on handling stress, finances and relationships in healthy ways.
A little bit about myself. I actually grew up on a farm with four brothers in Ohio. The blizzard of 1978 took my family down to Tarpon Springs, Florida where I received fourteen varsity letters in volleyball, basketball, softball and tennis. I then went to college on five athletic scholarships. In 1991, I tried out for American Gladiators in Tampa, Florida and I was one of twelve people to be picked to be flown out to be on the show. Yes, I was on the show. I never returned to live in Florida. All my family still loves there. I played women's professional baseball in 1997 and women's professional football in 2000. I became a teacher and a coach and I absolutely love doing it.
I want to help you become the best version of yourself. Be the best you you can be. Stop trying to be anyone else, everyone else is taken. Be You, an A plus you. Love and approve of all of yourself, the good and the parts that you don't like about you. Learn to be your own best friend. When you are comfortable in your own skin, life can be pretty wonderful. It took me a long time to get here.
You see, I told you a lot of the good stuff that happened to me. What I left out was that I drank away all my college scholarships and was kicked out of two colleges for drinking. I struggled a very long time with drinking and an eating disorder. I hated myself and I hated life. It took me many times, but by the grace of God and the fellowship of men and women in the twelve step rooms all over the country, I haven't found it necessary to pick up a drink since February 5, 1994. Now, I help others get clean and sober one day at a time.
I haven't met you yet, but I believe in you and your dreams. Never give up! Dreams do come true!
Thanks,
Coach Schenk
