First week of distance teaching completed!!!

What a week it has been!  I am learning a lot about patience when it comes to technology and holding physical education classes online.  The Zoom teaching is a bit challenging.  Are there ways to just let people in without me having to let them in in the middle of class?  Why couldn't my students log in when they could last time?  So, I created a new class and deleted the old.  Make like H2O and go with the flow.  We can do this and we will all get through this challenging time.  Today, I worked my bootie and and I realized that some kids just signed in and checked out.  We can't force anyone to put on their videos, but it is hard to know who is actually doing the workout.  Tae Bo was the activity for today.  This week we did our warm-ups with stretching, taught juggling with grocery bags and socks or tennis balls, an arm and leg workout, we got a decent cardio in and then finished with affirmations and words of wisdom.  I am awesome.  I am beautiful.  I am creative.  I am determined.  I am enthusiastic.  I can do anything I put my mind to.  Focus on what you want in your life, not what you don't want.  If you want to lose weight, don't focus on not eating, focus on healthy food choices in moderation.  If you want to stop an addiction, don't focus on not doing it.  Focus on what you do want in your life.  Replace the addiction with something positive. Be kind and patient with yourself.

It is important to get a mentor in your life that has what you want.  In twelve step programs they call them sponsors or fellow travelers.  If you do not like a person or family member, stop thinking, "I don't want to be like," because you will become just like them.  You see, the subconscious brain does not understand negatives.  So if you say, I don't want to get angry, you are actually telling yourself you do want do get angry.  So say to yourself instead, " I am peaceful and calm in all situations. I breathe and take it easy, one day at a time.  All is well in my world.  I am okay.  Something good is going to happen to me and through me today.  I am happy, joyous and free."  Start saying those things to yourself and watch your life change.

I really wish I knew about the power of thoughts when I was in high school.  I want all you to be the best version of yourselves.  Go out there and stand tall and be confident because there are many great adventures planned for you life.  I believe in you and your dreams.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone.

Trials and Tests

Something I just learned this summer is that life is full of trials, struggles and tests.  It seems that right when I finished passing one test, another one popped up, like a pop up quiz.  This is what I have discovered.  We will always have challenges and problems to solve, the key is to remain happy while we are waiting for the solution.  Just because I have a difficult time in my life does not mean that I have to have a bad attitude or be mean to others.  In fact, when I can't change the situation, I can change my attitude towards the situation.  I can have a problem in my life and still be kind to others.  In fact, the best thing I can do if I do not see the solution is to go help someone with his/her problem and put my issue on the back burner.  What I eventually began to see was that when I helped someone else, God helped my solution come forth. I did not become a PE teacher to distance teach, but right now I will be the best online/distance teacher I can be.

Now, go out there and give the world the best version of yourself.  The person that has a positive attitude in all situations.  Someone who picks up trash, opens doors, assists the elderly and helps out in ways that that still small voice inside you says.  Go mow your neighbor's lawn.  Walk your elderly neighbor's dog, keeping in mind social distancing..  Give a compliment or smile to a stranger. Apologize when you make a mistake.  Make your bed.  Take out the trash.  Pick up the phone and call your grandparents or an older person that lives alone and has been in quarantine for the past few months and let them know you are thinking of them.  The best gift you can give anyone is the gift of your undivided attention.

Be safe out there and hopefully we will see each other soon, face to face.

Thanks,
